Aboriginal Education and Training Unit (AETU)

Location:

The Aboriginal Educational Training Unit (AETU) is located in H Block (Canteen Building). There is public transport available from the TAFE and free parking in the TAFE carparks.

Learning Environment:

The Aboriginal Education and Training Unit develops courses that are culturally, vocationally and educationally appropriate for Aboriginal people. Aboriginal teachers will teach some of the course where possible, especially the cultural modules.

Courses

AETU develop courses to improve educational outcomes and employment opportunities for Aboriginal communities. Some courses can be delivered off campus, in your local community.

If you are an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander, talk to the Regional Aboriginal Coordinator for:

• advice about courses which might be right for you
• help with the enrolment procedure as well as information about how to contact the Aboriginal Student Support Officer
• advice about applying for ABSTUDY
• information about support services such as literacy and numeracy programs.

Aboriginal Education Training Unit Staff:

TAFE NSW - New England Institute has Regional Aboriginal Coordinators to encourage Aboriginal involvement and assist Aboriginal students. Coordinators work with Aboriginal Student Support Officers who help you to get started and provide you with advice and support while you are doing your course.
