Career Development

"Vision is where tomorrow begins, for it expresses what you and others who share the vision will be working hard to create. Since most people don't take the time to think systematically about the future, those who do, and who base their strategies and actions on their visions, have inordinate power to shape the future". (Burt Nanus)

"Career development is a lifelong process of growth through life, learning and work. Although career development happens unintentionally - none of us can avoid learning, experiencing, living, working and changing - when intentional, career development is about actively creating the work one wants to do within the context of the life one wants to live. This is not a simple process. Career development is both complex and unique. People's life, learning and work opportunities are influenced by many characteristics such as age, gender, ability/disability, and sexual preference. They are also affected by family, community and cultural values, the geographical, economic and political circumstances of an individual's life, as well as random and unpredictable events." (Miles Morgan Australia, 2003).
